Privacy policy
Effective 11 October 2026
Phone Catch is a game of catch played between phones that are near each other. It has no accounts, no servers and no advertising. This policy explains what the app uses, what it shares with other players, and what it never does.
What the app uses and why
| Data | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Precise location (GPS) | To measure distances between players, place targets on the field and judge catches. | Sent directly to the other phones in your game while a game is running. Never sent to us or any server. |
| Motion sensors | To turn your throwing motion into a speed, direction and force. | Stays on your phone. Only the resulting throw (speed, direction, angle) is sent to the players in your game. |
| Camera | To show the augmented-reality view of the field. | The camera image is processed on your phone and never recorded, stored or transmitted. |
| Bluetooth and local network | To find nearby games and connect the phones in a game, over Bluetooth or a shared Wi-Fi network or hotspot. | Used only to talk to the phones in your game. |
| Player name and a random player ID | So other players can see who is who. The ID is eight random characters created on your phone. | Shown to the players in your game. Stored on your phone. |
What we never do
Phone Catch does not create accounts, does not collect data on any server, does not track you between games, does not use advertising or analytics SDKs, and does not sell or share data with third parties. Location is not used in the background: the app only reads it while it is open.
Other players
During a game, the other players' phones receive your name, your approximate position on the field and your throws, because that is how the game works. Only play with people you are comfortable sharing your location with. When the game ends or you leave, your phone stops sending anything.
Google Play Services for AR
On Android, the AR view uses Google Play Services for AR (ARCore), which is provided by Google and covered by Google's privacy policy. Location on Android is provided by Google Play services.
Children
Phone Catch is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Deleting your data
Everything Phone Catch keeps is on your phone: your player name, player ID, settings and the last few throws for Replay. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data deletes all of it.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Questions can be raised as an issue on github.com/apphaus2/CatchX.
